Sunnybank Bowls Club Inc Celebrates 60 Years 1954 - 2014
Anniversary Week 9th to 15th June 2014
On Monday 9th June Sunnybank Bowls Club hosted a Special Anniversary Veterans Day with 12 rinks of 3 bowl triples being played. A most successful day was enjoyed by Vets and visitors with thanks to sponsors - Jack and Jean Shardlow.
Thirteen rinks of pairs competed for the prize money donated by Red Key Realty on Tuesday morning. In the afternoon 7 rinks participated in the Open Pairs trying to win the sponsorship money donated by Sunnybank Community and Sports Club.
The Ladies Financial Day on Wednesday was themed State of Origin with many members showing their "true colours", dressing in maroon or blue.
The fashion parade and friendship day on Thursday was a great success with 85 ladies attending and 8 of our ladies serving a great meal. Katz Boutique from Sunnybank Plaza provided the fashions with four of our beautiful members as models, Joan O'Sullivan, Bev Breakwell, Glenda Chapman and Berryl Freeman.
Friday saw the introduction of 2 bowl pairs to the Club and was sponsored by Raptis Seafood. Ten teams competed with many using the for Pennants practice.
A highlight of the week was the Saturday afternoon Anniversary Fours which enticed many clubs to join in a very successful day. A total of 20 teams of Fours vied for the $600 sponsorship, kindly donated by Mark Stewart M.P. and Flight Centre, Sunnybank Plaza. First Prize was collected by George Munro and Team from Moorooka, Jeff Beach and Team from Sunnybank collected second and Roger Avern and Team from Sunnybank were placed third.
The week culminated in the 60th Anniversary Dinner on Saturday night which was a fabulous night attended by over one hundred members and guests. The wonderful 3 course meal was followed by the 50:50 raffle draw which had a first prize of $1,192 and was won by George Croft. Dancing was the order of play with many members showing their prowess on the dance floor.
On Sunday several members were joined by bowlers from Algester to enjoy two games of pairs. The weather was warm as was the competition with Neil and John taking out the prize donated by the Sunnybank Hotel.
It was a terrific week of celebration of 60 years for the Sunnybank Bowls Club.
